Anyone going to Venice to visit the Biennale Arte can admire Chafes's work in the Cuban pavilion curated by Giacomo Zaza. Anyone who has been following Chafes's exploits knows that the publisher Charta has just put out a splendid book documenting his steel sculptures around the Sassi di Matera. The luckiest among us have seen at the Galeria Filomena Soares in Lisbon the exhibition "Tranquila ferida do sim, faca do nao" ("Quiet wound of the yes, knife of the no"). About emptiness and the intensity of the obscure, it was one of the most interesting installations in recent years. Rui Chafes is the author of many successful projects, some made in collaboration with his friend Pedro Costa, the Portuguese film director who is also present in the Cuban pavilion.
