Houston's South Texas College of Law: Ruling comes back in favor of district energy

Houston, Texas, has been referred to as "the most air-conditioned city in the world." While this may or may not be true, it certainly is hot and humid for a large part of the year. This may in part account for why district energy is so big in Houston. One of the district energy systems operating in Houston, Entergy Solutions District Cooling LP, has the prestigious honor of providing cooling to the South Texas College of Law, among the city's greatest institutions. South Texas College of Law is located squarely in the center of one of the most rapidly developing urban downtown centers in the U.S. Some commercial real estate sources believe downtown Houston will add as much as 6.4 million sq ft of new office space over the next four years (second only to New York City in square footage growth projections), bringing the city's total to 49.6 million sq ft. The fourth-largest city in the country, Houston provides the perfect learning environment for students, with an impressive mix of one of the nation's largest legal, business and governmental communities. The city is currently home to the corporate headquarters of 22 Fortune 500 companies, the second-largest concentration in the country.
