摘要

From its founding more than 175 years ago as Trinity College, Duke University has grown into an institution that today serves 12,100 students on three campuses totaling 1,400 acres in Durham, N.C. The campuses are home to 220 buildings, characterized by Gothic and Georgian architecture, representing 12.2 million sq ft of space. Duke University expects to continue growing at a fast rate into the next decade. With that expansion comes the need to ensure the campus cooling infrastructure can keep pace. Like other institutions of higher education across the nation, Duke faces the challenge of supporting program growth and making the most of available space while aiming to improve energy efficiency and thereby reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
