The city of Vancouver, B.C., 'flipped the switch' Jan. 14 on its first renewable district heating system. The $30 million system, which uses energy created fromrnwastewater, heated the Olympic Village and kept 2,800 athletes and officials warm during the 2010 Winter Games. By using a renewable resource to create heat, the Neighbourhood Energy Utility (NEU) system will help Vancouver make progress toward its goal of becoming the greenest city in the world by 2020.
