Organic light-emitting diode (OLED) technology is attracting considerable attention in the display industry. The technology enables the production of especially thin, light-emitting displays that can handle moving pictures. OLED displays could one day take the place of LCDs in many of the situations that require flat-panel displays. The first market for color OLED displays will be mobile phones. As society comes to depend heavily on electronic information, display devices are playing an increasingly significant role as the crucial interface between human users and electronic tools. Over the years, CRTs have proven themselves reliable display devices for many purposes. However, CRTs cannot respond to users' demands for thin and lightweight displays that save energy. Other technologies have come forth to meet those requirements. These flat panel displays have been welcome additions to the market for display devices.
