The cost of communicating is falling. Mobile and satellite telephony are bringing telecommunications within reach not just of the urban businessman but also the rural farmer. High capacity optic fibres are bringing the cost of today's international telephone call down to that of yesterday's local call. The Internet is enabling access to an infinite information resource from every country on the planet. Electronic mail is making efficient communications between and within developing countries not only more affordable, but in some instances a viable option for the first time. The Internet is doubling in size each year; mobile telephony is growing almost as fast (by an average of 78% per annum globally).
