Follow the Viewers

We're all familiar with the term "follow the money." In the broadcast business these days that philosophy can be paraphrased as "follow the viewer." In today's increasingly fractured viewing environment where over-the-top is becoming more dominant, the promise of a la carte is finally being realized (so much so, that DirecTV now markets a streaming service with that very brand). Although one could argue over whether these packages are truly "a la carte" in the traditional sense (especially when it comes to cost), the fact remains that OTT brings pay-TV subscribers more flexibility in choosing their viewing options.
