Suez responds to tailings and closure challenges for miners

The conclusion of two partnerships in recent months has seen Suez position itself as a total solutions provider for the water in mining market. Via partnerships with Diemme Filtration - part of the Aqseptence Group - and the Bureau de Recherches Geologiques et Minieres (BRGM), the water and waste giant has expanded its expertise in tailings pond management and mine closure, respectively. In an $n.2bn market growing at 6.2% per year, according to GWI WaterData, Suez hopes to gain a competitive edge in an industry that is waking up to the challenges of water scarcity and the threat it poses to production. While mining water supply and distribution takes up the lion's share of the market, Suez is homing in on the faster growing water and wastewater treatment market, a $2.2bn opportunity in 2021.
