NSW to tap wastewater for state H_2 build-out

The New South Wales government in Australia has identified a network of wastewater treatment sites that it plans to use as a source of water under the state's plan to become a hub for the country's production of green hydrogen. Green hydrogen is produced through the electrolysis of water with electricity generated by low-carbon power sources. At a summit last month, the NSW government released a map (see below) outlining its plans for an 'integrated hydrogen economy,' which identifies proposed hydrogen production hubs - zones for the building of new renewable energy generation and wastewater treatment plants. The map also identifies dedicated zones for new commercial and industrial infrastructure as part of the green hydrogen initiative, which it describes as 'special activation precincts.'
