Saudi Arabia awards second major water management 'cluster' contract

A team comprising French water giant Veolia and listed operator Alkhor-ayef Water and Power Technologies has been appointed to take over the operation and management of water services in the central region of Saudi Arabia, including the capital Riyadh. The SAR358 million ($95.5 million) 'management, operations and maintenance' contract, lasting up to seven years, will see the pair take over responsibility for the services currently provided by the National Water Company (NWC), covering potable water distribution, wastewater collection and treatment, and billing and customer service. The management stage will have a number of key performance indicators, with payments made under a performance-based structure.
