In the context of the development of the world capital market, the analysis of the movement of financial assets and their impact on the economic development of countries is of great interest. The article considers the modern model of Russia's participation in international capital flows. Its shortcomings were clearly manifested in 2014, when a record outflow of capital from the country was recorded as a result of increased economic instability and foreign policy tension. Based on the review of the capital market and direct investment flows, the peculiarities of capital inflow/outflow into the Russian economy are revealed. The dynamics and structure of foreign investments in Russia and Russian investments abroad during the period of anti-Russian sanctions are analyzed.
