The “Hand as Foot” teaching method in the peripherally inserted central catheter tip position

Peripherally inserted central catheter is a peripherally inserted central venous catheter, which has the protective effect of avoid- ing repeated venipuncture, and is widely used in clinical practice. 1 The tip of the peripherally inserted central catheter catheter should be in the lower third of the superior vena cava, and the most ideal location is the junction with the right atrium. If the tip of peripherally inserted central catheter catheter is located in any place outside the superior vena cava, it would be called cath- eter ectopia. Ectopia often occurs in areas such as ipsilateral inter- nal jugular vein, contralateral subclavian vein, azygous vein, right atrium, etc（Fig. 1 A). Ectopia can cause catheter-related throm- bosis or infection, arrhythmia, pleural effusion and other serious complications. 2,3 Therefore, the teaching of peripherally inserted central catheter catheter tip position is very important in clinical practices.
