As an important component of water resources use, domestic water use plays an important role in the comprehensive allocation of water resources. This study focuses on the Tarim River that is located in an arid inland river basin of China. It used a sta-tistical analysis method and a linear simulation model to analyzed the spatial and temporal distribu-tion pattern of 1 ×1 km domestic water use in 44 counties of the Tarim River Basin from 1989 to 2017. Identify the high water stress basins. The results showed that the urban, rural, and total domestic wa-ter use in the basin increased from 79.4× 106 m3, 34.2×106 m3,and 113×106 m2 in 1989 to 323×106m2,173×106 m2,and 484×106m23in 2017.The spatial difference between per capita domestic water use and total domestic water use in highly urbanized areas and rural areas is significant. The domestic wa-ter use in the Kaikong River, the Kashgar River, and the Aksu River Basin put the greatest pressure on water resources. The research results could provide a reference basis for the sustainable use of water re-sources in the Tarim River Basin and other arid areas.
