Transthoracic continuous echocardiographic monitoring of a patient with high risks for pulmonary embolism

A 45-year-old, ASA III, female was scheduled for exploratory laparotomy because of pelvic tumor. She diagnosed with venous thromboembolism and pulmonary embolism (PE) which may be induced by the tumor. The preoperative computed tomography (CT) showed there was thrombus in the distal right pulmonary artery, three main branches of right pulmonary artery and branch arteries of left inferior pulmonary artery. The color Doppler ultrasound showed there were thrombus in multiple veins including inferior vena cava, brachiocephalic veins and right internal jugular vein. She was treated with Rivaroxaban.
