Pediatric Intensive Care Unit mutation to adult unit during the initial COVID-19 wave: does it make sense?

The dramatic spread across the world of pneumonia due to SARS COV-2 generated critical care needs that drastically exceeded resources in France and elsewhere in Europe. The healthcare system in two French regions (Grand Est and Ile-de-France) was overwhelmed initially and creating ICU beds located outside conventional adult units but under the responsibility of skilled physicians became crucial. We reported the experience of three French pediatric ICUs (PICUs) that converted to only adult care during the initial COVID-19 wave.
