The effectiveness and safety of recombinant human growth hormone combined with alginate dressing in the treatment of diabetic foot ulcer

Diabetes isa group ofmetabolic diseasescharacterized by high blood sugarand itcauses by insulin secretion or deficiency ofaction, or both. Diabetes is becoming a public health problemas theimprovement of people's living standardsand thechanges oftheir lifestyles. [1] Globally, the number of people with diabetes is reported to havereached 382 million in 2013,and that number willexceed 592 million by 2035. With a prevalencerate of 9.7%, China has becomethefastest growing region of diabetes in the world and the world's largest diabetescountry. [2,3] The harmof diabetes is mainly reflected in complications, it has reported that therisk ofcardiovascularcomplications in diabetic patients is 2 to 4 times higher than that in normal people,and diabetes is theleading cause of non-traumaticamputation, blindness,and advanced kidney disease. [4,5] As one oftheseriouscomplications of diabetes, diabeticfoot ulcer (DFU), its high incidence, high hospitalization rateand high disability rateseriously threaten the quality oflife of diabetic patients. According to statistics, diabetic patients havea 12%to 25%chance of developingDFU,and the recurrencerate within 5 yearsafter ulcer healing is 50%to 70%. [6] Abouta quarter of people hospitalized with diabetesareassociated withDFU complications,and thereis 1 amputation dueto DFUevery 30 seconds in the world hasa 50%increased risk oflosing another leg after 3 years, theleading cause of non-traumaamputation, with a death rate of 13%to 17%. [7,8] DFUnot only affects the quality oflife of diabetic patients, but also bringsa heavy burden to their familiesand society. In the United States, thetotalcost oftreating afinalamputation dueto asevere DFU infection isalready as high as $190,000; inChina, thecost oftreating non-severe DFUis $1673; in India,a patient's totalincome of 5.7 yearscan only treatafoot ulcer surface. [9] Itcan beseen that DFUhas becomea publicchallenge, the developmentand prognosis offoot ulcer is theresult ofmulti-factor interaction,and it isclosely related to neurological dysfunction,exovascular lesions,and infection. It is necessary to study thecauses offoot ulcer healing and perfect its treatment plan to exploreeffectiveearly prevention and treatmentmethods.
