Gasaway, Houdek, and Price Honored with 2011 Marian Gould Gallagher Award - Three well-known members receive their due

The 2011 Marian Gould Gallagher Award winners--Lolly Gasaway, Frank Houdek, and Kathie Price--all epitomize the contributions to the profession and personal attributes that were embodied by the award's namesake. All three are names that AALL members will recognize, even if they haven't had the good fortune of knowing and working with these distinguished, intelligent, and innovative colleagues. Marian Gallagher served as the University of Washington's Law Library director for 37 years. She built a comprehensive collection during that time, but more importantly she recruited and set the highest standards for an exemplary staff. The Current Index to Legal Periodicals was her brainchild for providing an alert service for the law faculty. Gallagher was active in both local and state bar associations, as well as in AALL, including her service as AALL president in 1954-55. But Gallagher is probably best known for developing the law librarianship program at the University of Washington's I-school. Many of AALL's current leaders are graduates or past teachers in that program. As Penny Hazelton said in her tribute to Gallagher, "Even those who were not her formal students have been influenced by her knowledge and competence as a law librarian."
