Best practices for providing superior service to transgender and gender-nonconforming patrons Our justice system has only just begun to understand and address the barriers to justice faced by transgender individuals. Transgender individuals face widespread work harassment, housing discrimination, barriers to updating identification documents, and harassment by police. It's not surprising that, when surveyed, transgender individuals list legal information as their most pressing information need. As law librarians, while we may not be able to make nationwide, systemic changes, we are able to ensure that we are prepared to meet the unique information needs of transgender and gender-nonconforming patrons. is article is not intended to be an exhaustive list of how to best serve the transgender community in a public law library; it is only meant to begin a conversation about how we can better meet the needs of a particular, yet nonhomogeneous group of people.
