Rasa Ra?iūnait?-Pau?uolien?: Prof. Marcus Banks, I would like to ask you howyou got interested in anthropology and the social sciences.Marcus Banks: Because as a teenager, a young man, I was very interested in geology, and I went to university to be interviewed for a degree place in geology. And they saidyou don’t have enough science in your background. But we do teach archaeology, andthat’s sort of the same thing: digging things up. So I said OK. But they said: you can’tdo archaeology by itself without anthropology. And so when I started that degree Irealized I had little interest in archaeology but found anthropology fascinating. So it wasan accident. I had never considered it.
