Most cell types are polarized with distinct structuralorientations or protein localization patternsthat allow cells to perform context-dependentfunctions in space and time in response to physiologicalregulation (Forte and Yao, 1996).Epithelial cell polarity is characterized by cellswith apical and basolateral membrane domains, and the establishment and maintenance of cellpolarity are crucial during development to specifycell fate and functions, e.g. epithelial cells undergodynamic renewal to orchestrate the tissuehomeostasis in gastrointestinal tracts for digestivephysiology (Yao and Forte, 2003).
