Unappreciated role of low‐density lipoprotein receptor‐related protein 1 in pancreatic β cells: Multiple roles of low‐density lipoprotein receptor‐related protein 1 in glucose and lipid metabolism
The low-density lipoprotein receptor(LDLR)-related protein 1 (LRP-1)belongs to the LDLR family, whichincludes LDLR, LRP-2/megalin, very lowdensitylipoprotein receptor andapolipoprotein E (apoE) receptor 2. Previousstudies showed that these receptorshave distinct physiological roles in variousorgans. LRP-1 was originally identifiedas an endocytic receptor for apoEand a2-macrogloblin; however, accumulatedevidence showed that LRP-1 bindsnot only to these two molecules, but alsoto various ligands, such as lipoproteinlipase and tissue plasminogen activator.
