Are the Latin American recommendations for the management of patients infected with COVID -19 on hemodialysis realistic in health systems with limited resources?
In the context of the global epidemicof coronavirus infection (COVID-19), theLatin American Society of Nephrologyand Hypertension (SLANH), theTransplant Society of Latin Americaand the Caribbean (STALYC), and thePan American Association of InfectiousDiseases (API) prepared a statement withrecommendations for the management ofthe COVID-19 epidemic at the regionallevel for patients with kidney disease1.Although it is an important effort, somerecommendations are difficult to apply incountries with limited resources like Peru.In our country, despite improvementsin the supply of nephrology services2,there are structural aspects that preventcompliance with these recommendationsand show that our health system is notprepared to face this epidemic.
