Universal design and frugal design both are equally important to fulfil the users’ needs in a resource-limited society. Many design researchers and engineers in developing countries have produced practical solutions for sustaining and enhancing the livelihood of the marginal communities. The relationship between both approach is to encourage, and support product development process and design thinking specifically keeping in mind social justice for people, ecology for planet and economics of development for profit. Frugal innovation, in conjunction and combination with universal design, can be a combined framework where the design would be accessible to provide affordability and inclusive growth.
