The present review focuses on the description of the design, synthesis and physico-chemical and biological evaluation ofpolymer nanogels. Nanogels are robust swollen cross-linkedpolymer nanoparticles that can be used as highly efficient andbiodegradable carriers for the transport of drugs in controlleddrug delivery. In this article, various types of nanogels aredescribed and methods for their preparation discussed. Thepossibility of using synthesized nanosystems for targeting arereviewed to show the potential of tailored structures to reacheither solid tumor tissue or direct tumor cells. Finally, themethods for encapsulation or attachment of biologically activemolecules, e.g. drugs, proteins, are described and compared.
