A 76 years lady with hypertension and known ascending aorticaneurysm presented with progressive dysphagia. The aneurysmwas diagnosed 2 years prior, by transthoracic echocardiography,but she had refused any further imaging or intervention. Thedysphagia progressed from solids to liquids especially over thelast fewweeks andwas associated with significantweight loss.Acontrast enhanced computed tomography scan of the chest wasrecommended, but the patient deferred this. She agreed, however,to a barium swallow which revealed the cause of her dysphagia:external compression from the aortic aneurysm (Fig. 1).
