The NDL Lab launched the Next Digital Library(https://lab.ndl.go.jp/dl/) in March 2019 as anexperimental service that allows users to try out theresults of our research into digital libraries. One of thepurposes of the Next Digital Library is to verify thetechnical effectiveness of full-text searches, automaticprocessing using machine learning, and the InternationalImage Interoperability Framework (IIIF) API. The NextDigital Library contains functionality for performing imagesearches of 336,000 digitized books including rare and oldmaterials for which copyright has expired that areavailable online in the NDL Digital Collections. Of these,full-text searches are also available for about 30,000items classified under Category 6 (industry) of the Nippon Decimal Classification (NDC) system. This service hasbeen confirmed to be compatible with the latest versionsof Firefox and Chrome.
