This study was accomplished to identifiedreactions of some oat cultivars to salinity anddrought stress during early growth stage.Thecultivars which were used in this experiments,arevery critical cultivars in Turkey oat breeding andproduction.Distilled water was used as a controlgroup,the different levels of salinity (3,6,9,1 2 andi5 g 1 NaCl) and the different levels of drought (5%,10%,15% and 20%PEG6000) was usedfor creatingsalinity and drought stress conditions,in the samevein.The completely randomized design with threereplication was applied to the mean values of theparameters for varience analysis.There are sixgermination prediction parameters which wereanalyzed in the study.Using these parameters,stresstolerance index and stress sensitiv ity index values ofoat cultivars were calculated.In the light of theresults,the differences of cultivars,stress levels andcultivar x stress level interaction were significantlydifferent in both salinity and drought stress for allparameters ex amined (except germination speed onNaCl stress).Even though Checota showed goodperformance up to high drought stress levels (5%and10%) where the drought stress is at higher,Faikbeyand Seydisehir followed under high-stress levels.Faikbey had the most stress sensitive cultivar thanthe others in the study to salinity stress.It wasdetermined that Checota has more tolerant to salinitystress than other cultivars at germination stage.
