The effect of the environment on health is a hot topic that has received close attention over recent years. An appropriate amount of exercise improves human health and enhances immunity. However, exercise in a polluted environment can impact on the effectiveness of exercise and even cause various degrees of damage to the body.Pollutants in the air, such as solid particles, hydrogen sulphide, carbon monoxide, ozone, dust and acid mist, and aerosols, cause significant harm to the human body, leading to various respiratory and lung diseases, and can even cause cancer. Therefore,in this study,we analyzed the composition and sources of air pollution and investigated the harmful effects and mechanisms underlying the effects of atmospheric particulate pollutants on sports people. This study also explored the impact of air pollution on the cardiopulmonary function of sports people. The results showed that air pollution has adverse effects on human cardiopulmonary function and aerobic metabolic capacity.Further, this study indicates that air pollution is associated with significantly more adverse effects on the respiratory systems of sports people than non-sports people.
