EFFECTOF DIFFERENT SUBSTRATES ON THE CULTIVATION AND MINERAL NUTRITION OF SPINACH (SPINACIA OLERACEA L.) IN SOILLESS AGRICULTURE
The aim of this study was to determine the ef-fect of different substrates (perlite, pumice zeolite)on cultivation and mineral nutrition of spinach insoilless agriculture. For this purpose, spinach (Spi-nacia oleracea L.) was grown in different substratesand mixture under soilless agriculture conditions. The research was laid out at the randomized com-plete blocks with four replications.11 differentgrowing media were prepared to perlite, pumice andzeolite and mineral nutrient contents have been ex-amined together with some growth parameters inspinach. While these substrates can be used alone, mixtures of the substrates such as perlite(pe) andpumice(pu); perlite(pe) and zeolite(ze),pumice(pu) and zeolite(ze),perlite(pe)+pumice(pu)+zeolite(ze)are also be used in experiment. Results showed thatthe best results are obtained from zeolite + pumicemixtures based on yield and quality criteria.Theyield and quality criteria of spinach plants grown in(3+1,ze+pu) and (1+1,ze+pu) applications werefound to be more effective than other applications.Innutrient content of spinach plants,(3+1,ze+pu),((1+1,ze+pu) and (2+1+1,pe+ze+pu) mixtures pro-vided better results.Perlite, pumice and zeolite areappropriate substrates for soilless agriculture withsuitable properties, availability and low cost.
