(4′-Chloro-2,2′:6′,2′′-terpyridine-κ3 N,N′,N′′)bis(nitrato-κO)zinc(II)

In the title complex, [Zn(C 15 H 10 ClN 3 )(NO 3 ) 2 ], the central zinc(II) atom is pentacoordinated by two O-bonded nitrate ions and three N atoms of the 4′-chloro-2,2′:6′,2′′-terpyridine ligand in a slightly distorted trigonal–bipyramidal shape. The main feature of the title complex packing is the presence of offset π – π interactions between the terpyridine rings in different layers. This structure constitutes the first known example of a zinc(II) 4-chloroterpyridine complex with coordinating nitrate ions.
