(Wireless Mesh Network (WMN) is emergingnetwork which is being widely used to handle most of thewireless internet access available in today’s world. WMN isa self sustaining network made up of numerous mesh routerswhich are deployed and are static in nature and the mobileclients/ mobile stations which are highly mobile nodes. Thegateway is responsible for connecting the mobile stationswith the internet. When the mobile station move from onenetwork to the other, the handoff process needs to be carriedout to maintain the connectivity of the mobile station with theinternet network. The handoff process is usually degradeddue to several factors like signalling packet transmissiondelay, channel contention, etc. In this paper, it is proposed todevelop a Inter-Gateway Handoff Management Using AntColony Optimization (IGHMACO) for Wireless MeshNetworks. In this technique, the Ant agents are used toestimate utility function based on which the next access pointis determined. The contention in channel is reduced bysplitting the channel and the signalling packet transmissiondelay is reduced by storing the handoff history. In this way,the handoff process is performed effectively, in turn ensuringefficient network operation.
