Different types of hazards have been attributed to microplastics, based on theextentand route ofexposure. Thereisan indispensable need to optimizetheexistingwaste-waterand drinking-water treatmentsystems,as thiscan significantlyminimizetheconcentration ofthese harmfulsubstances. In conclusion, humans have been exposed to microplastics through a widerange ofsources. Acknowledging thefact that plastics in themselvesare potentialthreats forclimate deterioration and health hazards, it is high timethatadequatefocus should be given towards their reduction in production and optimaltreatment to eventuallyminimizethe health risks.
