Systemiclupuserythematosus (SLE) isacomplex chronic multisystemautoimmuneinflammatory disease. SLEmost frequently affects women of childbearing age. Womenwith SLE areatan increased risk of pregnancy complications thatareexacerbated by active diseaseassociated with a considerable higher risk for fetaland maternalcomplications.[1] Thesecomplications include diseaseactivity flares, preeclampsia, pretermbirth, and fetalloss. Severalrisk factors have been identified to stratify patients with a high risk for obstetriccomplications which includeanti-SS-A (Ro)/SS-B(La)antibodies (risk ofcongenital heart block and neonatallupus)and patients with an established diagnosis ofantiphospholipid syndrome or lupus nephritis.
