Flexible endoscopic removal of a foreign body impacted on the posterior pharyngeal wall: An unusual case of senile scoliosis
Pharyngeal foreign bodies are an emergency condition occur- ring when ingested foreign bodies become lodged in the posterior pharyngeal wall. 1 Complications include retropharyngeal abscess and perforation relate to the nature of the foreign body and the delay in removal. 2 We report a 74 year old man with the spinal deformity presented with a pharyngeal body lodged within the posterior pharyngeal wall. After eating jujube cake he developed severe dysphagia, fever, and swelling of the pharynx. CT scan showed a retropharyngeal abscess with an ellipse shaped foreign body (Fig.1A and B). Rigid esophagoscope revealed purulent secre- tions but because of spinal deformity the foreign body was not seen. The patient was transferred to the endoscopy center.
