Combined use of dexmedetomidine and nicardipine provides better controlled hypotension in elderly patients undergoing orthopedic surgery

For elderly patients with impaired major organs and poor toler- ance to anesthesia, anesthesia-related incidents and postoperative complications are common. 1 Controlled hypotension has been per- formed to reduce the systolic blood pressure to 80e90 mm Hg to reduce the amount of intraoperative bleeding and the need for blood transfusions and improve the quality of surgical field. Conse- quently, it reduces surgery-related adverse reactions and improves the therapeutic outcomes.
