termed early clamping. Anecdotally, there has been no evidence of significantharm to these infants. Scientifically, thechanges that have been noted are ofarguable long-term medical consequence. If it were clearly detrimental tothe health of the child to performclamping in one fashion or another, surely legislation would have been institutedby now. Therefore, we leave the decisionof when to clamp and collect thecord blood up to the preferences of themother and her physician or midwife. Inour experience, we have not found thatthe difference in time involved makes fora significant difference in collection.
