There is an urgent need for US$ 15 billion for the Access to COVID-19 Tools (ACT) Accelerator, a global initiative launched to boost the development, production and equitable distribution of COVID-19 tests, treatments and vaccines. A call for funding was made by the United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, at the inaugural meeting of the Accelerator Facilitation Council, which took place on 10 September. According to the Secretary-General, a total of US$ 35 billion is still needed for the ACT-Accelerator to realise its goals of producing 2 billion vaccine doses, 245 million treatments and 500 million tests by 2021.
