'Hygienenetzwerk Südostniedersachsen' – a model for hygiene network formation in Germany

Introduction / objectivesRegional network formation is an integral part of anystrategy to combat antimicrobial resistance development,as recommended by the German Antimicrobial ResistanceStrategy (DART). But no information about theadequate organization in decentralized health systemssuch as Germany is given. Here, we report on the`Hygienenetzwerk Südostniedersachsen?′ (HN-SON), aregional network in Lower Saxony, Germany, with specialfocus on organizational aspects.MethodsStarting in 2009, a hygiene network of local health careproviders was founded in Brunswick, Germany, moderatedby the local health authority and focusing aroundthe City Hospital, a major academic teaching hospital of1000 beds.
