Making Roads Safe for Children Using Integrated Multi-Stakeholder Competency Building Approach

With nearly 3700 people dying on the world's roadsevery day, road trafficcrashesareacauseforalarm.[1] Evenworst is thefact that tens ofmillions moreareinjured or disabled every year with life-altering injuries. Theimpact ofroad trafficcrashes is lasting and takesa hugetoll onindividuals, families,and communitiesasa whole.Leaders fromthe world community, through theirendorsement ofsustainable development goals (SDGs),arecommitted to halvethe number ofdeaths fromroad crashes by 2020.[1] Theresults oftheseeffortsare visibleas progressappears to have beenmadein areas such as legislation,vehiclestandards,and improving access to postcrash care. However,as the progress does notappear to have happened ata pacefastenough tocompensatefor therising population and rapid motorization oftransport, it is being apprehended thatat this rate, the SDGs target 3.6 to halveroad traffic deaths by 2020 will not be met.
