Originating within the city of Wuhan, Hubei Province,China, in December 2019 and January 2020, the diseaseCOVID-19 has spread widely throughout the world.1-3 OnMarch 11, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO)classified COVID-19 as a pandemic. COVID-19 is causedby the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, and is believed to haveoriginated from bats.4-6 Its overall case fatality rate has beenreported between 1% and 3.8%, although this number is likelyto evolve as broader testing becomes available for less severecases.1,6,7 The WHO-China Joint Mission on Coronavirusdetermined that 75-85% of case clusters in China occurredwithin families, presumably in the household.
