Electrosurgical electrode has been widely used as surgery instrument, because it can cut tissues quickly with the blood being coagulated. There are two important issues, namely thermal damage and toxic fumes, which need to be solved urgently. This paper proposes a heat-assisted (H-A) electrosurgical electrode, that is, the active electrode is heated quickly at the moment when the cutting tissue starts. The advantage of this technology is that the electrode can smoothly cut the tissue with lower power supply. The experimental result shows that if the temperature of electrode was heated to 300 °C immediately before tissue cutting, the power output was decreased by approximately 22 %, the thickness of thermal damage was decreased by approximately 20 % and the concentration of toxic fume was decreased by approximately 43 %.
