Precision agriculture frequently uses Digital Elevation Models (DEM) to know with high accuracy and resolution the variability of the terrain. SRTM (Shuttle Radar Topography Mission) is one of the most well-known global DEM, its horizontal resolution is 30 m and vertical accuracy of ± 20 m. The objective of this work is to apply GPS measurements of sub-metric quality on uniformly distributed points to improve the available DEM (SRTM30) in an oil palm plantation area in southern Zulia state, Venezuela. A selection of the points and the access routes was made in a SPOT-5 satellite image, measuring a total of 81 GPS points, with a sub-metric precision and kinematic measurements in a route of 45 km, obtaining orthometric heights in the traveled routes with an accuracy of 0.60 m to 1.5 m, determining a more precise DEM for the study area.
