SAT-305 SOCIOECONOMIC AND CHELLENGES OF DIETARY COUNSELING, COMPLIANCE, INTAKE, AND NUTRITION STATUS IN HEMODIALYSIS PATIENTS IN A RESOURCE LIMITED SETTING- A TANZANIAN EXPERIANCE

Introduction: Dietary education, counseling and compliance in any non-communicable disease (NCD) including chronic kidney disease (CKD)remainsachallengeinaresourcelimited setting.Thisispartlyattributedto the lack of expertise and an inadequate understanding of appropriateeating habits. The Africa Healthcare Network (AHN) --supported dial-ysis centers in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, are unique in having a verystrong “dietetic service” provided to its patients. Furthermore, thenurses working in the centers are well orientated with patient educationthrough classroom sessions over their clinical training, which in itselfhas had its challenges. However, the process and learnings to-date haveled to the development of a recent dietary database. The objective of thisstudy was to develop and establish a database to collect all aspects ofpatients’ socioeconomic status, diet and nutrition status. Therebyproviding a platform for strengthening existing dietary interventionsand improving the patients’ clinical outcomes.
