I applaud David Vail and the University of Alabama Pressfor having written and published a book that dared to doanything other than demonize farming— in general—and the use of agricultural chemicals— specifcally—and pretend that our country’s agricultural productionsystems could have been created and continue to function without them. Vail’s book is truly a breath of freshair insofar as that many social scientists, social scienceprograms, and academic presses preach increasinglypartisan worldviews about large- scale conventional agricultural practices.
