摘要

The ability of bacteria to develop resistance to multiple antibiotics poses a serious threat to human health.1 Scientists are especially alarmed by the increasing failure of antibiotics known ascarbapenems, which are considered the drug of last resort fortreating multiple drug–resistant infections.2 Researchers haveidentified carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE), including Escherichia coli, in multiple species.3,4 However, there hasbeen scant evidence of direct microbial transfer between humansand animals. Research published in Environmental HealthPerspectives now provides such evidence.
