Extradural spinal cavernous hemangioma mimicking a dumb-bell shaped tumor, as a rare cause of myelopathy – Case report and review of literature

Graphical abstractDisplay OmittedHighlights?Cavernous hemangiomas are rare vascular malformations in the spinal epidural space with only 100 cases reported in literature.?Patients present with slowly progressive myelopathy or radiculopathy.?MRI scan is the investigation of choice for initial diagnosis, followed by histological diagnosis after operative excision.?Although benign, it is advisable to operatively excise the tumor to reduce myelopathic symptoms and avoid sudden hemorrhagic conversion resulting in further spinal insult.?Patients recover well post excision, with minimal residual neurological sequelae.?Postoperative recurrence is rare.
