Hydrocephalus as a presenting manifestation in neurological sarcoidosis: Recognition and challenges in management
Sarcoidosis is a chronic inflammatory granulomatous disease char-acterised by the development of non-caseating granulomas in multipleorgans. It is termed neurosarcoidosis (NS) when it involves the centralnervous system (CNS) [1]. Hydrocephalus is a rare but serious com-plication, it is even more unusual for this to be the presenting mani-festation [2]. We describe the first reported series in literature of fourpatients with CNS biopsy proven sarcoidosis who presented acutelywith hydrocephalus, two of whom were not previously known to havesarcoidosis. We hope to raise awareness of the difficulties that can arisein diagnosis and management of this condition.
