SAW properties in quartz-like α-GeO2 single crystal

The paper investigates numerically the properties of surface acoustic waves (SAW) in a new α-GeOSUB2/SUB single crystal of trigonal crystal symmetry (32). It is shown that the SAW has a maximum value of electromechanical coupling coefficient ≈0.14% on ZSUP+120/SUP°, X –cut of a crystal with a zero power flow deflection angle. For the case of ZSUP+140/SUP°XSUP+25/SUP°-cut, the SAW electromechanical coupling coefficient equals 0.17 %, but the power flow deflection angle is not zero. Calculations are made of the frequency dependence of the conductance of SAW interdigital transducers (IDT), which electrode number equals 100 and wavelength is 20 microns on ZSUP+120/SUP°,X –cut crystal. The excitations of bulk acoustic waves are absent in this cut case. Leaky acoustic wave, generated by IDT on ZSUP+120/SUP°,X –cut of crystal, has a small electromechanical coupling coefficient, which is 4 times less than that for SAW.
