The Malaysian state of Terengganu this month introduced joint billing for water and sewerage - which could potentially be a precedent for operational integration of the two services. Its immediate impact is aimed at easing the financial woes of Malaysia's national wastewater company, but the move could also be key for authorities ahead of a planned wastewater buildout. Terengganu is the first Malaysian state to implement joint billing. Around 7% of accounts in the state will receive a first integrated bill containing both water and sewerage charges from 1st March, issued by state water operator Satu Water.
