Rep. Mac Thornberry (TX), the top Republican on the House Armed Services Committee, said today the "message has been conveyed" to the White House that Congress will be prepared to override President Trump should he make good on threats to veto the fiscal year 2021 defense authorization bill. The House is expected to vote tomorrow on a final version of the bill with the Senate to soon follow. "I'm pretty optimistic that we'll have a strong vote," Thornberry told reporters in a virtual press conference. In fact, Thornberry said, he thinks the bill will pass by an even wider margin this week than when it cleared the House floor in July with 295 votes.
